I finally was able to mark number 28 off of my Life List, stomp grapes at a wine festival. T and I went out to our local Grapefest in Grapevine, Texas that is held every year. I always thought it would be fun to stomp grapes so after publishing my Life List I did some research on how to make that possible. Although I had been to Grapevine’s Grapefest in the years past I never took the time to stomp grapes. I had not even seen it done before, somehow I missed the whole exhibit each year.
First I must say T and I both had a blast! We named our team the Benbrook Grapes after our town but our name wasn’t as fun as the teams we went up against called the Purple People Eaters, Sassy Grapes, Stompin’ Winos and others that I can’t remember now. Each team got two minutes to stomp grapes. The first team member stomped for one minute and then you had forty seconds to switch and the second team member stomped the last minute. When you weren’t stomping you were holding the pitcher to catch the juice from the grapes. I can say we didn’t come in last place but only by 3/4 of an ounce. We did so bad that we couldn’t help but laugh and make fun of ourselves. It was all worth it and I think we’ll make it a yearly tradition! Something so simple as grape stomping that started as a silly Life List item created quality mother daughter bonding and will now be an event we will look forward to taking part in each year at our local Grapefest.
